Games are structured in accordance with the Long Term Athlete Development Program of Lacrosse Canada indicated in the CLA Rule Book - Option X Games are played with smaller nets and on half the playing surface.

All teams will participate in 1 weekend of play (Saturday or Sunday) in May, and June against other clubs. Due to the high volume of players/teams we are unable to provide a set practice schedule and days/times may vary.

U7 will have a wrap up CDLA Jamboree style tournament June 2026

FLA & CDLA are proud to announce a partnership with the Calgary Roughnecks in the renaming of our U7 division to the Lil Roughnecks

All U7 players this year will receive a free stick and get to keep their jersey at the end of the Season (one stick per U7 player over all playing years in the division)

U7 is for players aged 4, 5 and 6 years old.

At the end of the season, a special U7 Festival is held where all teams come together to play one another in a fun and festive atmosphere.

The U7 season runs twice a week until mid-June. Historically we have ran practices on Tuesday's and Thursday's.

For more information about registration, see Spring Box Lacrosse Registration.

The format for U7 will be:

  • 3-on-3 during the two 12 minute games
  • Session times - 1 hour
  • 12 minute warm-up / skills - 12 minute game - 12 minute skills session - 12 minute game
  • Running time
  • Players on floor for 3 minute intervals during the 2 - 12 minute games
  • Play the width of the floor
  • Contact Rule is ‘equal pressure‘
  • No referees - coaches manage the floor
  • No penalties - stop when necessary to explain infractions
  • The fall back rule applies when the goaltender is in possession of the ball. All defensive players must enter the neutral zone where they must wait until the ball crosses the restraining line.  The goalie must pass the ball to one of the offensive players who must be at least 9 feet from the crease.

ALA Regulations

The purpose of the U7 league is to introduce, emphasize, and develop the fundamental skills of lacrosse. The focus of practices as well as games is to promote an environment that encourages participation, skill development, and overall enjoyment of the game.

The CDLA has divided the U7 league up into 4 areas:

Deep South - Okotoks / Foothills

South Calgary - Axemen (house program) and Sabrecats (house program)

North Calgary - Hornets, Knights, and Strathmore, Rockyview

This is to allow for all games to be played close to home and reduce travel to and from games.

At the end of the season, a special “U7 Festival” is held where all teams come together to play one another in a fun and festive atmosphere.

Throughout the season, in order to encourage the development of this environment, there will be no standings for U7.

Please note that although standings are not kept, standard game results procedures must be followed (ie. sending in the game sheets).

U7 players require full gear. See Required Lacrosse Equipment for more information.
